Simon, I usually agree with a lot of your comments but I think comparing drink driving to gun violence is a classic strawman argument.
Vehicles and transportation are necessary for everyday life, guns are not, unless you are actively serving in some type of security.
Vehicles, also are designed for safety and usually the drunk driver has no intention of killing.

Some of you guys have mentioned what it was like in the good old days, when everyone cruised around, openly displaying weapons and no one ever got shot.
I'm old enough to remember the exact same scenario here in Australia, guys would walk down the road in country towns with guns on their way home from shooting. Guns were everywhere, nearly everyone I knew owned a gun, especially in the country areas. They were part of our culture.
That all changed after the worst mass shooting by a single shooter ever. It only took one, single bad event.
If there were nearly 400 mass shootings in any other developed country in the world in a single year, the citizens of that country would be rioting in the streets for social change.
The only countries that come close to America's gun violence are in South and Central America and war zones.
I'm not judging, I'm not against guns, but I can't believe people will blame everything else except the fact that there is easy access to guns in the US.

i was looking at the world health org.
report and it shows the us ranks 37th in the world (tied with albania) for combined male/female life expectancy.
the top 5 were japan, switzerland, singapore, israel and spain, all around 83 years.
Diet and lifestyle is what usually determines a higher life expectancy from my understanding.
More veggies, less meat, less sugar, more exercise.
It's proven that the less you eat, the longer and healthier your life expectancy will be.

he told me that in the watchtower study (10 nov 2019) regarding “the great tribulation” the elder on the platform said that there’s no need for jws to preach in every country in order to fulfil the prophecy, and therefore the org has already fulfilled that prophecy.
and that there’s nothing else left to wait for now but for “the great tribulation” to come.. gasps of delight came from the audience.. has anyone else heard this?

2.1 billion hours per year are spent preaching. An average of about 20 hrs per month per publisher. (sounds a bit padded to me).
It requires 7746 hours of preaching per year to create one baptism.
The population of the world increases by about 80 million people per year.
The amount of preaching needed to convert just the population growth each year would be about 59.6 billion hours. About 30 times the current amount.
We know 80 million people per year are never going to become JW's, so thats 80 million people per year that have to die needlessly at armageddon for every year that 'the end' is delayed.

i did a quick google check - seems next years memorial is on tuesday (nisan 13) rather than the wednesday, nisan 14 according to the jewish calendar.
I always understood it was 14 days from the first new moon after the spring equinox.

in fact the regimes were deeply suspicious people who took the ideology too seriously.
people who took the ideology seriously were dangerous because they were prone to noticing the inconsistencies and flaws in the system.

I posted about the zizek trilemma a month or 2 ago because it resonated so well with me as to the behaviour of high control groups, including JW's.
Intelligence and honesty are not as important as loyalty, in fact, those qualities are dangerous to the organisation. Loyalty above all - even truth.
